The GRAMMAR/SENTENCE STRUCTURE Skill: The extent to which the essay uses accurate grammar, effective, varied sentence structure, and appropriate, precise usage.

The CONVENTIONS Skill: The extent to which the essay demonstrates the ability to spell common words and to use the conventions of capitalization and punctuation accurately.

In this lecture, we will use a prompt to create an outline of the focus and organization of an essay, then brainstorm the main idea, key points and supporting details.
